Australian Open 2015: Day 3 Preview

Day 3 sees the men take on each other in the second round. Below are the scheduled matches and my thoughts on a few of them.

Simone Bolelli (ITA) vs [2] Roger Federer (SUI) – Federer should get through this in straight sets. He will look to carry on in the same form he displayed in his opening round. This is the last match of the morning session on Rod Laver Arena and he will find the faster conditions to his liking.

Tim Smyczek (USA) vs [3] Rafael Nadal (ESP) – Nadal should get the win without losing a set here. He opens the evening session on Rod Laver Arena after the day match on Monday.

[6] Andy Murray (GBR) vs Marinko Matosevic (AUS) – Murray in three. I have a feeling one of them will be a tie breaker. The Aussie crowd will be loud for this one.

[7] Tomas Berdych (CZE) vs Jurgen Melzer (AUT) – Berdych should win this one. Melzer owns two victories in their head to head (against 3 losses) but the last one came 8 years ago.

Lukas Lacko (SVK) vs [10] Grigor Dimitrov (BUL)

[14] Kevin Anderson (RSA) vs Ricardas Berankis (LTU)

[20] David Goffin (BEL) vs Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) – This will be a fun match to watch as both guys are known for their shot making.

[22] Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) vs Bernard Tomic (AUS) – This will be a Loud match, no doubt. And I am pretty sure we will see some spectacular shots as well.

Nick Kyrgios (AUS) vs [23] Ivo Karlovic (CRO) – This will be an interesting match and again a loud one. Kyrgios will work the crowd but might get frustrated against Karlovic’s relentless barrage of aces. The crowd will try to get into it by booing the big Croatian’s errors and double faults but he is too experienced to let that get to him.

James Duckworth (AUS) vs [24] Richard Gasquet (FRA)

Viktor Troicki (SRB) vs [26] Leonardo Mayer (ARG)

[28] Lukas Rosol (CZE) vs Dudi Sela (ISR) – Hope Rosol takes this one so that we can witness Rosol vs Nadal in the next round.

[29] Jeremy Chardy (FRA) vs Andreas Seppi (ITA) – The winner will be expected to take on Federer in the next round. Federer leads Chardy 2-1 but all those 3 matches went the distance whereas he is unbeaten against Seppi in their 10 matches.

Joao Sousa (POR) vs [32] Martin Klizan (SVK)
